‘Op Streek’ is an old concept from, among other things, the Frisian in-law skating tradition: to skate arm in arm as a couple, you have to get along well with each other, be ‘on the stroke’ and thus be in the same rhythm.
Also, in dance music, you have to be very well “in tune” with each other, that is, in the same rhythm and at the right pace. And, of course, you must also get along well with each other. And we can do that!
We play folk music mainly from Eastern Europe (Balkans) and Israel. But also, for example, America, England and the Netherlands are represented.
Our music is not only nice to dance to, but as listening music it certainly has its charm as well.
On Streek consists of:
Hessie Kloosterman – accordion, trekzak
Geja Everaarts – clarinet, recorder
Gea Meester – vocals, recorder, flute
Gouke Geus – violin
Jan Eijzenga – guitar
Maaike van den Akker – double bass, bass guitar
Jelle Boonstra – percussion, vocals
