Friday, Oct. 11, 2024: with Hinke Koopmans’ parachute dress
When there are few materials to work with, you have to improvise with what you have.
Even more so in World War II.
Fabrics for beautiful dresses are rare in 1944, but sometimes they just come out of the blue.
For Hinke Koopmans from Garyp that is certainly true.
She marries in a dress made of parachute fabric.
It probably came from an American bomber nicknamed “Yankee Rebel Harmony.
That aircraft made an emergency landing near Warten in March 1944.
Close to Earnewâld. On Friday, October 11, the Fries Museum will be a guest in Earnewâld with Hinke Koopmans’ original parachute dress.
With a festive program we will tell more about the dress, the wearer and the plane.
During the day from 15.00 to 17.00, join the whole family at the family workshop and make your own flower corsage.
Or in the evening from 19.00 to 19.30 listen to the fascinating stories of expert Marre Sloots (curator of the Fries Verzetsmuseum).
Of course, we are also curious to hear your personal stories. Date: Friday, October 11 Time: 3:00 – 7:30 p.m. Location: Doarpskeamer Earnewâld (Wiidswei 6, 9264 TL Earnewâld) Registration is not necessary, feel free to come along
Family workshop: making flower corsage from a wedding dress
Parachutes were made from precious fabrics and throwing them away is of course a waste.
Hinke Koopmans therefore decided to process the fabric into a special wedding dress.
And later this dress was adapted again to a spring dress.
In this free workshop you get to work reusing fabrics yourself, this time from an old wedding dress.
Give the wedding dress a new life by turning it into a beautiful flower corsage.
Decorate the pin with small pearls, felt and other materials to make your corsage completely your own. Join us also between 3 and 5 p.m.
